Is anxiety inherited, what do you think? For me I don't believe so. I believe some of us are born into a lineage where there's anxiety and panic attacks. However that doesn't point to that we'll have anxiety.
Speaking from my individual own understanding my Mother had anxiety and I'm not a 100% certain but I think my Dad was a quite nervous man. So yes it was in my family. But I've four siblings and not any of them undergo anxiety or panic attacks. I am also a Sagittarius and it sounds as if we're prone to be anxious people. So this may also be a helping factor.
When I had my first session of anxiety I did ask my Physician the question 'is anxiety inherited'?, he was not sure. As far as he was anxious there was no justification either way. So I think there's no ultimate answer to the question 'is anxiety inherited'?.
I truly think that there is no such thing as an anxiety gene within us. I do think that we can pick up on the behaviours of those closest to us when we're growing up. So I feel we can have learnt behaviour. Which is something completely dissimilar to anxiety?
As children we may have seen someone near to us having an anxiety attack and not truly understood what was happening. But what we would of picked up, was the fright they where feeling. And if it was a close relative who was acting afraid, then we'd actually be frightened, as we looked to them to keep us secure. But we would not of realized there fear.
So there may be an argument for anxiety being a learnt behavior, but as for the question 'is anxiety inherited'?, I'm not certain. Although it could be truly beneficial at times to know where my anxiety originated from. And yes when I was feeling down it may of been quite useful to have someone to blame and be angry with. But again that's only part of the process, well it was for me. The not knowing or understanding was actually frightening. It would of been useful for me to have the physician say, yes its inherited, at least then I might of least understood my anxiety better.
